HIMARS Rockets and Drones: Pentagon Allocates $988 Million Aid Package to Ukraine
The US Department of Defence has announced a new military aid package worth $988 million to Ukraine.
This is stated in an official Pentagon statement.
The new package, which is part of the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative, includes ammunition for missile systems, UAVs, and weapons maintenance and repair.
The weapons provided for in the agreement will be manufactured at American enterprises and not delivered directly from Pentagon warehouses.
The Pentagon noted that more than two billion dollars remain available under the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI), which can be used for Ukraine.
‘This package reflects our unwavering commitment to ensuring that Ukraine has the tools it needs to protect its sovereignty,’ the statement said.
The new aid package includes:
Ammunition for High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS);
unmanned aerial systems (UAS);
equipment, components and spare parts for the maintenance, repair and overhaul of artillery systems, tanks and armoured vehicles.
The current president has frequently used the Presidential Decision to Reduce, which allows him to transfer surplus goods and services from US stockpiles without congressional approval.
Following Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, the United States has provided over $62 billion in security assistance to Kyiv.
