Hungary Preparing to Host Trump–Putin Meeting on Russia-Ukraine War, Orban Confirms

U.S. President Donald Trump announced plans to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin in Budapest. The decision follows a phone conversation between the two leaders earlier this week.
The Gaze reports this, referring to European Pravda, citing Trump’s post on social media.
The U.S. president wrote on Truth Social that the upcoming meeting would focus on “the possibility of ending the disgraceful war between Russia and Ukraine.”
He said he hopes recent progress in the Middle East could “help pave the way for peace negotiations” in Europe.
According to Trump, U.S. First Lady Melania Trump’s humanitarian efforts to help return Ukrainian children taken to Russia were also part of the discussion, along with postwar trade prospects between Washington and Moscow.
The U.S. president added that senior advisers from both sides would meet next week, with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio leading the American delegation.
“The location of the preparatory meetings is still being finalized,” Trump said, noting that his personal summit with Putin will take place in Budapest once details are settled.
Trump also confirmed he will meet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in the Oval Office on Friday to brief him on the conversation with Putin and coordinate next steps. He called the talks with the Kremlin “a significant step forward.”
This is the first direct communication between Trump and Putin in two months – since the Alaska summit on August 18.
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán later confirmed that Budapest is preparing to host the U.S.–Russia peace meeting.
“I have just spoken with President Donald Trump. Preparations for the USA-Russia peace summit are underway. Hungary is the island of peace,” Orbán posted on X late Thursday.
