The Republic of Kosovo has joined the G7 statement in support of Ukraine, adopted at the NATO summit in Vilnius, known as the "Security Assurances Declaration." The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, shared the corresponding statement on Twitter.

"Republic of Kosovo joins the G7 Declaration in support of Ukraine. Ensuring Ukraine's victory and holding Russian leaders accountable for their crimes are vital for preserving peace and democracy. Kosovo is ready to contribute to these efforts," reads the statement by Albin Kurti.

"We appreciate the bravery of Ukrainians in defending our shared values, including democracy, human rights, global peace, and stability, and we extend our deep condolences and sympathies for their losses and suffering," Kurti added.

In the statement from the Kosovo government, it is emphasized that Russia's aggression in Ukraine remains a threat to international security and stability. The Prime Minister of Kosovo also pointed out that the consequences of this conflict extend beyond Ukraine, impacting the Balkan region. Russia aims to exploit its authoritarian alliances to destabilize the Western Balkans.

Kosovo declared independence in 2008, yet Serbia still considers it as part of its territory. Half of the UN member states, including the USA and the majority of EU and NATO countries, recognize Kosovo's independence. However, Ukraine does not acknowledge this status.

It is known that during the NATO summit in Vilnius, leaders of the G7 countries endorsed a general framework for "security assurances" to Ukraine. The specific terms of these assurances will be defined in subsequent bilateral agreements.

At present, twenty-five countries have joined the G7 declaration on long-term security assurances for Ukraine. Apart from Kosovo, Greece and North Macedonia from the Balkans have also joined the declaration. Among other countries that have endorsed the declaration are Belgium, Denmark, Ireland, Iceland, Spain, Norway, the Netherlands, Portugal, Romania, Finland, the Czech Republic, Sweden, and Latvia.

As a reminder, Ukraine initiated negotiations regarding "security assurances" in August. This step followed Ukraine's insistence on expanded arms packages, NATO membership invitation, and security measures.
