North Macedonia Joins the G7 Declaration on Security Guarantees for Ukraine
North Macedonia has become the 15th country to officially join the declaration of the leaders of the "Group of Seven" (G7) in support of security guarantees for Ukraine.
This announcement was made by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
President of Ukraine expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister of North Macedonia, Dimitar Kovačevski, for his personal efforts in strengthening the partnership between the two nations.
In total, 15 countries have now joined the G7 declaration. These include Belgium, Denmark, Ireland, Iceland, Spain, Norway, the Netherlands, Portugal, Romania, Finland, the Czech Republic, Sweden, and Latvia.
The next step involves the establishment of bilateral security agreements between Ukraine and the guaranteeing countries.
Earlier, The Gaze reported that Latvia declared its accession to the G7 declaration, which pledged support to Ukraine. During the NATO summit held in Vilnius in July of this year, the G7 issued a joint statement committing to support Kyiv in defending against Russian armed aggression.
"We, the leaders of the Group of Seven (G7), reaffirm our unwavering commitment to the strategic goal of a free, sovereign, democratic, and independent Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders, capable of defending itself and deterring future aggression. We affirm that Ukraine's security is an integral part of the security of the Euro-Atlantic region," the declaration states.
Furthermore, the declaration announces work on specific, bilateral, long-term commitments and agreements in the realm of security, aimed at ensuring "resilient armed forces capable of defending Ukraine now," as well as deterring Russian aggression in the future, strengthening economic stability, and providing technical and financial support.
It is also known that Ukraine is in negotiations with the United States, the United Kingdom, and Greece regarding bilateral agreements on security guarantees. In the event of a future armed attack by Russia, the G7 countries commit to promptly consult with Ukraine to determine appropriate further steps.
In the declaration, Ukraine also outlines its commitments, particularly those related to reforms.
