Russia has stated that it opposes an immediate ceasefire in Ukraine, calling it a neglect of the causes of the conflict, which once again demonstrates the Kremlin's unwillingness to achieve a just peace.

The Gaze reports on it, referring to Deutsche Welle.

At a press conference on October 21, Sergey Lavrov said that Russia does not agree to an immediate cessation of hostilities in Ukraine, as this would mean “forgetting the root causes of the conflict.”

He referred to the alleged agreements between Putin and Trump during their meeting in Alaska, according to which the parties allegedly agreed that “long-term sustainable peace” was needed. This rhetoric actually repeats the usual Kremlin theses, which seek to present a protracted war as a “necessary condition for peace.”

Lavrov also repeated propaganda formulas about “Nazis in Ukraine,” claiming that an immediate ceasefire would leave “most of the country under their control.”

Such statements are typical Kremlin disinformation narratives aimed at justifying the invasion, delegitimizing Ukrainian statehood, and shifting responsibility for the war onto the victim of aggression.

This rhetorical device is intended to undermine international support for Kyiv and legitimize the occupation policy.

“This is yet another demonstration of Russia's unwillingness to make peace: the Kremlin is trying to impose ‘peace on the aggressor's terms’. Ukraine and its partners support a just peace, while Russia does not want this,” reads a statement from the Center for Countering Disinformation.

Meanwhile, the Kremlin emphasized that it has not set any specific date for a possible meeting between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump. A preparatory meeting between U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has also been delayed, underscoring that the process remains in a preliminary stage.

As The Gaze previously reported, expectations for an early summit in Budapest are fading as Russia maintains ambiguity over the timing and conditions of such a meeting.
