Kyiv Symphony Orchestra to Give Concert in Germany on Flag Day and Ukraine's Independence Day
The Kyiv Symphony Orchestra is set to perform a special concert in the German city of Einbeck on August 22, in celebration of Flag Day and Ukraine's Independence Day. The orchestra will play compositions by Mozart and Valentin Silvestrov during this event.
This announcement was made by the press service of the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine.
The first part of the concert will feature Mozart's works, including the composition "Thamos, König in Ägypten" and the 4th violin concerto, to be performed by soloist Roman Kholmatov.
The second part will be conducted with Valentin Silvestrov's 5th symphony. Conductor Vitaliy Protasov explained that this challenging, necromantic and post-modern piece has a significant impact on the evolution of global music art, just like Silvestrov himself.
The program harmoniously combines compositions of these two world-renowned composers, symbolizing solidarity and support between Europe and Ukraine, as highlighted in a statement by Kyiv Symphony Orchestra.
According to the project's producer, Andriy Koshman, the concert program blends European classical music with contemporary Ukrainian symphonic compositions. He emphasized that while peace is important, Ukraine's undeniable victory over Russia in the war remains the paramount task for Ukrainian society, as this ensures the safety of future generations.
Andriy Koshman noted that through such artistic initiatives, Ukraine aims to draw attention to the Russian war in the country and encourage European partners to more decisively assist in the fight against Russian aggression, as they could potentially be the next target.
The Kyiv Symphony Orchestra's concert will be covered by Germany's national television ARD and RTL.
Following this, on September 3, the Kyiv Symphony Orchestra will return to Prague, where they will perform Benjamin Britten's "War Requiem" in the grand Vladislav Hall of the Old Royal Palace as part of the Prague Sounds festival. This iconic 20th-century musical piece, reflecting on two world wars, was performed live for the first time in the Czech capital in February this year, on the first anniversary of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. The performance featured a vocal-symphonic ensemble of 220 musicians, including members of the Kyiv Symphony Orchestra.
It's worth recalling that to celebrate Ukraine's Independence Day, a charity concert in support of Ukraine will be held in Vērmanes dārzs Park in Riga on August 24. This event was announced by the Embassy of Ukraine in Latvia.
