Today, Moldova's Parliament, in a plenary session, voted to extend the state of emergency due to the Russian war in neighbouring Ukraine for an additional 30 days, starting from December 1. The majority, consisting of 60 deputies from the ruling party "Action and Solidarity" (PAS), supported this decision on November 24, as reported by Moldovan NewsMaker.

During the parliamentary session, arguments for the government were presented by Adrian Efros, the Minister of Internal Affairs of Moldova. He emphasized the necessity of extending the state of emergency due to ongoing risks to the country's security.

"As the cold season approaches, there is a high likelihood that Russian armed forces will intensify attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure. Currently, there is a trend of increasing attacks by Russian drones. Potential attacks on energy infrastructure may also impact the supply of electricity to Moldova. Additionally, direct risks to energy security related to a reduction in the supply of natural gas from Russia cannot be ruled out," stated the announcement.

Among other reasons for extending the state of emergency, the government highlighted Russia's involvement in attempts to destabilize the situation in Moldova.

Deputies from the ruling party "Action and Solidarity" approved the project, while the opposition opposed the extension of the state of emergency. In protest, the faction of the Communist and Socialist Block left the parliamentary session.

It is worth noting that the state of emergency in Moldova has been in effect since the beginning of Russia's invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022, and has been extended several times.

Previously, the Moldovan government announced the creation of a separate structure responsible for coordinating the country's accession processes to the European Union.

As reported by The Gaze, Romania, among other countries, expressed strong support for the start of accession negotiations for Moldova and Ukraine with the European Union this year. This support was conveyed by the Romanian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Luminița Odobescu, during her official visit to France, where she met with the French Minister of Foreign Affairs, Catherine Colonna. Both Romania and France declared their support for the accession negotiations of the two countries to the European Union by the end of this year.
