Ukraine will now have access to rapid-response cybersecurity support from the European Union in the event of major cyberattacks, following an agreement signed between Ukrainian and EU officials, The Gaze reports.

Deputy Prime Minister for Innovation and Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov signed amendments to Ukraine’s participation in the EU’s “Digital Europe” programme (2021–2027).

On the EU side, the agreement was signed by Roberto Viola, Director-General of the European Commission’s DG CONNECT.

The update allows Ukraine to access the EU Cybersecurity Reserve — a key initiative under the EU Cyber Solidarity Act aimed at strengthening digital security across the continent.

“Today’s war takes place in multiple domains, including cyberspace,” said Fedorov. “Every day, our enemy attempts to attack state systems and critical infrastructure. Enhanced cooperation with the EU and access to the Cybersecurity Reserve will allow Ukraine to receive rapid support from certified European experts to defend, contain attacks, and recover quickly. This is another step toward digital integration with Europe and strengthening our cyber resilience. I thank the European Union for its trust and continued support.”

Under the new agreement, in the event of serious cyberattacks targeting government information systems, energy infrastructure, or other critical facilities, Ukraine will be able to call on a network of certified EU cybersecurity experts. These teams can intervene quickly to stop the attacks, protect data, and help restore operations.

As The Gaze previously reported, the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) is allocating a new aid package worth 14 million USD to Ukraine under the Tallinn Mechanism, an international initiative that coordinates assistance from 11 partner countries in strengthening cyber resilience.
