Poland continues to provide Ukraine with critical military assistance, while significantly increasing its own defence capabilities within NATO.
This was noted by NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte at a joint press conference with Polish Defence Minister Vladislav Kosiniak-Kamysz in Warsaw..
Rutte thanked the military personnel of NATO's forward land forces in Poland, recalling that the base he visited today hosts troops from Romania, Croatia, the United Kingdom and Poland.
‘The forward land forces here are just one example of how allies are coming together in the service of our common security. It is also an example of Poland's many contributions to our collective deterrence and defence on land, at sea and in the air,’ the Alliance's Secretary General said.
He highly appreciated Poland's commitment to increase its military personnel by 300,000 by 2035 and invest more than 4.5% of GDP in defence, with this figure set to rise in 2026.
Rutte also highlighted Poland's ‘critically important support for Ukraine.’ According to him, since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion, Warsaw has provided Kyiv with over €4 billion in military aid, including $100 million for the PURL initiative, and has taken in many Ukrainian refugees.
In addition, Poland hosts an important military logistics hub for Ukraine, as well as the NATO-Ukraine Joint Analysis, Training and Education Centre (JATEC).
‘NATO is united and ready to deter aggression and defend our freedom and security, as well as to continue our vital support to Ukraine,’ the Secretary General concluded.
Rutte previously emphasised that the multi-level security guarantee system for Ukraine, which partners are currently working on, must be comprehensive and send a signal to Russia that a repeat attack would have devastating consequences for the Russian Federation itself.
