New European Parliament Adopts Resolution in Support of Ukraine: Until Victory
At a meeting on Wednesday, the newly elected European Parliament adopted a resolution in support of Ukraine by a majority vote, in which it condemned the uncoordinated foreign policy actions of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban.
This is reported on the website of the European Parliament.
The decision was supported by 495 MEPs out of 679.
The institution reaffirmed its position that the EU should continue to support Kyiv as long as it takes to win.
The resolution states that the EU should actively work to maintain international support for Ukraine, provide military assistance for as long as necessary and in any form.
The Parliament also condemned the recent visit of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban to Moscow and stressed ‘that he did not represent the EU during this visit’ and considered ‘this visit a flagrant violation of EU treaties and common foreign policy’.
The majority of the European Parliament condemned Hungary's abuse of its presidency of the EU Council and called on it to lift the blockade of funding for Ukraine from the European Peace Fund.
In addition, the resolution says, EU sanctions against Russia and Belarus should be maintained, extended and strengthened.
This resolution is the first official position of the newly elected European Parliament on Russia's war against Ukraine and reaffirms the continued support of MEPs for Ukraine's independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognised borders.
