New Polish President Advocates Close Partnership with Ukraine

Newly elected Polish President Karol Nawrocki expressed hope for continued close partnership with Ukraine, emphasising the importance of resolving complex historical issues between the two countries.
The Gaze reports on this with reference to Nawrocki's post on social media X.
Nawrocki published a statement in response to congratulations from President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who expressed his expectation of fruitful cooperation with the future president of Poland.
‘I look forward to continuing the partnership between our countries, based on mutual respect and understanding. I believe that this requires not only good dialogue, but also the resolution of pressing historical issues,’ Nawrocki said.
He also emphasised Poland's role as one of Ukraine's most loyal allies in confronting Russian aggression.
‘Poland has been Ukraine's most vocal supporter against Russian aggression; no other country understands this threat better than we do,’ he wrote.
In conclusion, Nawrocki expressed his hope for further joint work to strengthen bilateral relations.
‘I hope that we will continue to work together for the common good, to resolve the unresolved past and build a secure future together,’ Nawrocki said.
His statement came amid cautious expectations from Kyiv regarding the new Polish president's positions, particularly given Nawrocki's previous remarks on historical memory and his sceptical views on Ukraine's Euro-Atlantic integration.
Nawrocki is officially scheduled to take office on 6 August.
As The Gaze reported earlier, Karol Nawrocki, a historian and head of Poland's Institute of National Remembrance, has won the country's presidential runoff in a razor-thin race that may reshape Poland's domestic trajectory and its foreign policy, particularly toward Ukraine.
