Argentina's newly elected President Has Invited the President of Ukraine to Hold a Peace Summit With Latin America
The newly elected president of Argentina offered his Ukrainian counterpart to hold a peace summit between Ukraine and Latin America regarding the war initiated by Russia in Ukraine.
This was reported by DW.
"President Milei held telephone talks with President Volodymyr Zelensky and proposed that Argentina hold a conference between Latin America and Ukraine," said Milei's advisor on foreign policy, Diana Mondino.
Mondino noted that the Argentine side suggests holding such a summit "if it is appropriate."
Thus, Argentina seems to seek to take the lead among the countries in the region on issues related to the Russian war in Ukraine.
In turn, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky thanked the newly elected president of Argentina "for a clear position" and invited Milei to visit Ukraine to "send a powerful political signal."
"No balancing between good and evil - only clear support for Ukraine. Ukrainians see and appreciate this," emphasized the Ukrainian president.
Recall that at the end of last week, as a result of the presidential elections, Javier Milei garnered almost 56% of the votes and became the new leader of Argentina. It is worth noting that since the end of the military dictatorship in the country in 1983, none of the candidates had achieved such results in elections.
"Today is a historic night for Argentina. Today marks the end of Argentina's decline. Today is the end of the model of an all-encompassing state that leads to the impoverishment of Argentinians," Milei stressed.
In his election campaign, he already promised radical changes to rectify decades of ineffective policies. Among other things, Milei announced his plans to replace the national peso with the US dollar.
Among other things, the new president proposes to cut state spending by 15%, abolish the Central Bank, loosen control over the sale of firearms, and privatize the healthcare sector.
Moreover, Milei has already named the United States and Israel as his new benchmarks for foreign policy, distancing himself from Argentina's current major trading partners - Brazil and China.
Currently, Argentina is experiencing inflation at 150%, and the debt to the International Monetary Fund has reached $44 billion.
