PM Meloni Grants Italian Citizenship to Argentine President Milei for His Roots
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has granted Italian citizenship to Argentine President Javier Milei because of his Italian roots, Il Post reports.
Milei received Italian citizenship on Friday during his visit to Italy.
The Argentine leader is eligible for it because of his ancestry: Milei's grandparents migrated to Argentina from Calabria in the early twentieth century, and he often mentioned this fact in public speeches. According to media reports, this information has been documented.
Miley also has a good relationship with Maloney, not least because of their ideological affinity.
According to Il Post, this decision is also a diplomatic step for Meloni to strengthen ties with Argentina and find new markets for his goods amid a possible increase in US duties after Donald Trump comes to power.
Milei's younger sister, Karina, who works as his chief political adviser, will also receive Italian citizenship.
