Norway Pledges $100 Million to Help Ukraine Secure Winter Gas Supplies

Norway has announced an additional 1 billion Norwegian kroner ($98.29 million) in funding to help Ukraine import natural gas ahead of the 2025–2026 heating season, bolstering the country’s energy security as it faces continued Russian attacks on critical infrastructure.
The Gaze reports this, referring to Devdiscourse, citing the Norwegian government.
The new assistance, confirmed by the Norwegian government on Friday, will be channelled through the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) to Ukraine’s state-owned energy company Naftogaz.
The funds will be used to purchase gas from Western suppliers for both immediate consumption and to build up reserves in case of further strikes on the country’s gas network.
This latest contribution matches a similar 1 billion kroner allocation made in March 2025, bringing Norway’s total gas-related support to Ukraine since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion to 4.6 billion kroner.
According to the Norwegian government, the combined aid in 2025 is expected to provide enough fuel to supply around one million households throughout the winter.
Officials in Oslo framed the decision as a critical step in supporting Ukraine’s resilience amid acute energy needs and ongoing geopolitical challenges.
As The Gaze reported earlier, Sweden, Norway, and Denmark have jointly committed approximately $500 million to fund a new NATO initiative aimed at delivering U.S.-manufactured military equipment to Ukraine.
