OSCE Parliamentary Assembly Recognises Russia’s War Against Ukraine as Genocide and Calls for Decolonisation of Russia
On the opening day of its summer session in the Romanian capital, the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly adopted a resolution on the tenth anniversary of Russia's armed aggression against Ukraine, recognising the decolonisation of the Russian Federation as a prerequisite for establishing lasting peace.
The Assembly recognised the actions of Russia and its political and military leadership during the full-scale war in Ukraine as genocide of the Ukrainian people and called on all 53 OSCE participating States to make every effort to de-occupy Crimea and all temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine by supporting President Zelenskyy's Peace Formula and the Crimean Platform, said Pavlo Frolov, a member of the Ukrainian delegation.
Ukraine called on the international community to conduct an international and national investigation into the mass atrocities, murders, torture, and rape committed by the Russian army and bring the perpetrators to justice, including through the establishment of a Special Tribunal for Crimes of Aggression against Ukraine.
The OSCE PA parliamentarians stressed the need to quickly launch a mechanism for using Russia's frozen assets for the benefit of Ukraine, invited countries to join the Agreement on the International Register of Damage Caused to Ukraine by the Aggression of the Russian Federation, and called for a ban on the import of Russian liquefied natural gas to the European Union, its re-export and transit through EU ports.
The Assembly supported the creation of the International Coalition for the Return of Ukrainian Children and called for the release of Ukrainian prisoners of war, civilians and children.
The "presidential elections" in Russia on 15-17 March 2024 were recognised as fraudulent and used by the authoritarian Kremlin regime to strengthen lawlessness, dictatorship, terror and undermine the legitimacy of the entire electoral system of the Russian Federation.
The resolution contains 70 points in total. The OSCE PA session will last until 3 July.
