OSCE Condemns Missile Strike on Ukrainian Foreign Broadcasting Offices
The OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media, Jan Bratu, has strongly condemned a recent Russian missile strike on Kyiv that destroyed the buildings housing Ukraine’s international broadcasting services, including The Gaze.
The targeted attack severely damaged the editorial offices of the International Broadcasting Multimedia Platform of Ukraine, which includes channels such as FREEДOM, Dom, UATV English, UATV Español, UATV Arabic, UATV Português, and their digital editorial and service departments.
In a statement shared on his official X account, Bratu denounced the assault as a serious violation of international humanitarian law.
“Recent Russian missile attacks have targeted and severely damaged the offices of the Ukrainian Foreign Broadcasting channels in Kyiv, including FREEDOM, Dom, UATV English, The Gaze, UATV Español, UATV Arabic, UATV Português,” the statement reads.
“Targeted attacks against media infrastructure, which are civilian objects in accordance with International Humanitarian Law (IHL), are unacceptable and in breach of IHL and OSCE commitments.”
Bratu emphasized the importance of protecting journalists and media infrastructure in times of conflict, stating:
“I condemn such targeted attacks and call for full compliance with international humanitarian law and OSCE commitments.”
As previously reported by The Gaze, the missile strike occurred on the night of April 6 and follows a previous attack on February 12. Both incidents left the facilities nearly destroyed and inoperable, disrupting Ukraine’s international broadcasting efforts.
