Poland Ready to Host Nuclear Weapons on Its Territory - President Duda
If our allies decide to deploy nuclear weapons on our territory as part of a nuclear weapons exchange to strengthen the security of NATO's eastern flank, we are ready for it, President Andrzej Duda said in an interview with Fakt on Monday.
"Russia is increasing its militarisation of the Königsberg area. Recently, it has been moving its nuclear weapons to Belarus," the Polish president reminded.
He added that Poland is an ally in the North Atlantic Alliance and also has a commitment to the security of NATO's eastern flank, so it implements a common security policy.
"If our allies decide to deploy nuclear weapons as part of a nuclear exchange, also on our territory, to strengthen the security of NATO's eastern flank, we are ready for that. We are an ally in the North Atlantic Alliance, and we also have obligations in this regard, that is, we are simply implementing a common policy," President Andrzej Duda said.
As a reminder, the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Rishi Sunak, is arriving in Poland today for a working visit. During his first personal meeting with the new Prime Minister of Poland, Donald Tusk, the Prime Minister will discuss deepening British-Polish ties on a range of issues.
Building on the existing strong defence and security cooperation, he will propose the deployment of an RAF Typhoon squadron next year to provide NATO air control over Poland.
To further boost trade and support UK companies looking to invest in Poland, the Prime Minister will also announce today his intention to triple the UK's export finance funding available to Poland from £5 million to £15 million.
Bilateral trade between the UK and Poland has doubled in the last decade to reach £30.6 billion, with 45 million bottles of Scotch whisky bought in Poland last year and UK firms bidding for £5 billion in energy, defence, health and infrastructure.
