President of Ukraine Zelenskyy Meets with US President Biden and Vice President Harris at the White House, Presents Victory Plan
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with President of the United States Joseph Biden and Vice President of the United States Kamala Harris in Washington and presented them with the Victory Plan.
The Head of State thanked Joseph Biden for his strong support and decisions that help protect Ukraine and Ukrainians.
‘We deeply appreciate the fact that Ukraine and America have stood side by side since the first moments of this terrible Russian invasion. Your determination is incredibly important for our victory,’ Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.
The President also thanked for the announced package of $7.9 billion to help Ukrainian soldiers on the frontline.
‘I want to thank you for all the years of support for Ukraine and our independence. I remember how important your phone call to Kyiv was on the first day of the Russian invasion. And I also remember your visit to Ukraine at a critical moment in February 2023 - it was a brave decision,’ Volodymyr Zelenskyy stressed.
He presented the Victory Plan to the U.S. President. The leaders discussed the diplomatic, economic and military aspects of the Plan and instructed their teams to consult on the next steps.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy also told Kamala Harris about the latest developments on the battlefield, the operation in the Kursk region, as well as Russian attacks on Ukrainian energy.
The President of Ukraine called on the Allies to strengthen Ukraine's air defence and increase pressure on Russia.
‘We must keep sanctions against Russia tough and use the proceeds of frozen Russian assets to protect Ukraine, our people, our cities, our frontline from Russian evil. And, of course, we must work hard to bring all Russian war criminals to justice,’ he stressed.
Kamala Harris noted that this was her seventh meeting with Volodymyr Zelenskyy and assured of unwavering support for Ukraine. According to her, the United States will continue to provide the security assistance necessary for Ukraine's victory.
‘We must defend our democratic values and stand up to aggressors. And we must uphold the international order, rules and norms. Each of these principles is at stake in Ukraine, and that is why Ukraine's fight matters to the American people,’ the US Vice President said.
On 12 October, Joseph Biden will hold a meeting of the Contact Group on Ukraine's Defence in Germany at the level of leaders. The Presidents of Ukraine and the United States will meet bilaterally to review the progress of consultations, as well as with international partners to coordinate additional assistance for Ukraine.
‘First, we must now strengthen Ukraine's position on the battlefield, and that is why today I am proud to announce a new $2.4 billion security assistance package. I have also instructed the Pentagon to release all remaining security assistance funds earmarked for Ukraine by the end of my term, which is 20 January. This will strengthen Ukraine's position in future negotiations. Secondly, we are looking ahead to help Ukraine succeed in the long term,’ the US President said.
