President Putin held a telephone conversation with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, discussing the development of bilateral relations and international cooperation.
The Kremlin reported that during the conversation, Putin informed Kim Jong Un about the planned talks with US President Donald Trump in Alaska this week.
North Korea’s official Korean Central News Agency confirmed the conversation itself, but did not mention the meeting between Putin and Trump scheduled for Friday. It is reported that Kim and Putin discussed the development of relations between the countries within the framework of the strategic partnership agreement signed last year, confirming their desire to strengthen cooperation in the future.
During the conversation, Putin expressed gratitude for North Korea's assistance in the “liberation” of the Kursk region, as well as for the “the bravery, heroism and self-sacrificing spirit displayed by service personnel of the Korean People's Army.”
Intelligence reports claim that North Korea has already sent more than 10,000 troops to support the Russian campaign in western Russia and is likely planning a new deployment.
