Renowned Clarinetist Julian Milkis Performs Charity Concert in Odesa Philharmonic

Internationally renowned clarinetist Julian Milkis, a native of Odesa, performed a moving charity concert at the Odesa Philharmonic Hall on May 15, continuing his unwavering support for Ukraine amidst the ongoing war.
The Gaze reports on this with reference to the post of the Odesa Regional Philharmonic.
Joined by the Philharmonic’s chamber orchestra under the direction of Ihor Shavruk, Honored Artist of Ukraine, Milkis captivated the audience with the evocative music of Georgian composer Giya Kancheli. The concert’s centerpiece “Letters to Friends” was recorded by Milkis just a week earlier in Kyiv, underscoring the artist’s deep connection to Ukraine during these turbulent times.
Proceeds from the evening will be donated to the “Monsters Corporation” charity foundation, which provides critical assistance to Ukrainian service members. This marks another chapter in Milkis’s ongoing philanthropic efforts – earlier, on May 11, he held a similar benefit performance at Odesa’s Urban Music Hall, with funds directed to the Bionic Foundation, supporting the rehabilitation of wounded veterans.
Julian Milkis, born in Odesa, emigrated to Canada during the Soviet era and now resides in New York. Over his illustrious career, he has performed with renowned ensembles such as the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, Vivaldi Chamber Orchestra, Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, Lyon Symphony Orchestra, Vancouver Orchestra, Seoul Symphony Orchestra, etc. Since Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022, Milkis has frequently returned to his birthplace, using his music to raise funds and morale.
Beyond the stage, Milkis’s charity concerts symbolize a bridge between Ukraine and the global community, harnessing cultural heritage as a tool of resilience and solidarity.
