Romania, Bulgaria to Be Connected by New Bridge across Danube
The National Road Infrastructure Management Company of Romania (CNAIR) has announced the start of construction of a new bridge across the Danube, which will connect the country with Bulgaria.
This is reported on the CNAIR website.
The new bridge will connect the cities of Ruse in Bulgaria and Giurgiu in Romania by both road and rail.
CNAIR has submitted to the Romanian National Agency for Public Procurement the documentation for the contract necessary to develop a feasibility study on the basis of which the new bridge will be built.
The feasibility study will take a maximum of 23 months from the date of signing the contract, the statement said. Then the Romanian authorities will announce a tender for construction. The date of its possible completion is not specified.
It is noted that the contract is financed through the Connecting Europe Facility, established in 2014 to finance pan-European infrastructure projects.
The Bulgarian and Romanian authorities agreed to build a bridge to connect Ruse and Giurgiu back in 2017.
