Russia Violates Baltic Airspace Again, Polish Command Says

Poland has accused Russia of once again violating NATO airspace over the Baltic Sea, The Gaze reports, citing European Pravda.
According to a statement from Poland’s Operational Command, a Russian Il-20 reconnaissance aircraft intruded into the airspace on June 13 at approximately 10:50 AM, prompting a rapid response from two UK fighter jets stationed in Poland.
British Typhoon jets were scrambled and successfully intercepted the Russian aircraft, which was conducting surveillance operations over the region. The Polish military characterized the incident as another provocative act aimed at testing NATO’s air defense readiness.
“This is yet another case of provocative testing of NATO countries’ alert systems,” the Operational Command stated on social media platform X (formerly Twitter). The appropriate NATO command structures have been notified, Polish authorities added.
This is not an isolated event. Earlier this week, Finland also reported an airspace violation by Russia, marking a concerning pattern of aggressive air maneuvers near NATO borders. Additionally, two other Russian reconnaissance aircraft were intercepted in recent days by British jets operating out of Poland.
The incident underlines growing tensions in the region, as NATO allies remain on heightened alert amid Russia’s ongoing military activities near alliance territory.
