German Fighter Jets Intercept Russian Reconnaissance Plane Over Baltic Sea

Two German Air Force Eurofighter jets were scrambled on Thursday in response to a Russian reconnaissance aircraft flying over the Baltic Sea, The Gaze reports, citing European Pravda.
The Russian Il-20 aircraft was operating in international airspace but failed to transmit identification signals and did not respond to radio communications, according to the German Bundeswehr.
In response, NATO launched the German fighter jets from Rostock-Laage airbase as part of a routine air policing mission.
This marks the sixth interception mission conducted by the German Air Force in 2025 amid heightened tensions in the Baltic region.
The area has seen an uptick in unauthorized reconnaissance activity and suspected acts of sabotage, keeping the regional security environment on high alert.
As The Gaze reported, Poland deployed its air force in response to intensified Russian aerial attacks on Ukraine, marking the second consecutive night of heightened military alert along NATO’s eastern flank.
