Security Situation Deteriorates at Russia-occupied Zaporizhzhia NPP, Europe's Largest
The United Nations nuclear watchdog warned on Saturday that the security situation at Ukraine's Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant has ‘deteriorated’ following a drone strike nearby. One of the roads surrounding the Zaporizhzhia NPP was damaged by a drone strike.
This is stated in the latest report of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
‘The security situation at the Zaporizhzhia NPP in Ukraine deteriorated after a drone strike on the road around the perimeter of the plant on 17 August,’ the report says.
The epicentre of the explosion was ‘near important cooling ponds and 100 metres from the Dnipro power line, the only surviving 750-kilovolt line that supplies power to the plant’.
‘There were no casualties as a result, and no damage to NPP equipment. However, the road between the two main gates of the plant was damaged,’ the IAEA said.
In addition, the organisation's experts drew attention to the intensification of military operations near the plant this week.
The day before, Russia began spreading a large-scale fake about a ‘dirty bomb’ that Ukraine allegedly wants to use at ZNPP, which was officially denied by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.
