Is there anything more beautiful than autumn? Cosy evenings with blankets by the fireplace, pumpkin spice, warm sweaters... autumn is undoubtedly the best time of year. It is fascinating to watch what happens when summer turns into winter. The leaves change colour, the days get shorter and the air gets colder. However, nothing can convey these changes better than music. We've created a playlist that perfectly captures the essence of autumn.

Go for a walk and get into the autumn mood yourself and don't forget to play these songs while travelling, picking apples or grapes.

Guns N' Roses - November Rain

‘November Rain’ is one of the first songs that come to mind when you think of autumn. This grand masterpiece of a piano ballad has become a signature song of Guns N' Roses. It is a rock ballad for the ages. The depressing autumnal story of a lost love that breaks your heart, Slash's inspired, soaring guitar solos and the band's dramatic dynamics on the crescendo of the string section, accompanied by a powerful chorus, make this song a classic. The lyrics and video are based on the story ‘Without You’ by Del James. ‘November Rain’ peaked at No. 3 on the US Billboard Hot 100, No. 9 in Germany, where it charted for 51 weeks, No. 5 in Australia, holding the Top 10 for 22 weeks, and No. 7 in New Zealand.

Earth, Wind & Fire - September (Eric Kupper Remix)

It was an incendiary disco tune from back in 1978. More than four decades have passed, but ‘September’ by Earth, Wind & Fire is still popular.

Although autumn is not the focus of the song, the ‘night of 21 September’ referred to in the song is the first day of autumn. The song focuses on the new blossoming of love and shows the change of feelings along with the change of seasons.

It was the band's breakthrough hit, and although they have released many other popular songs, ‘September’ is ranked #65 on Billboard's list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. This song also tends to be revived every year around September, which is not surprising.

Taylor Swift - All Too Well (Taylor's Version)

Swift's fans know that ‘All Too Well’ is supposedly about her relationship with Jake Gyllenhaal, and it is often called her best song. The title says it all, and the lyrics tell the story of exes who want to get back together again and again. ‘All Too Well (10 Minute Version)’ shows that Taylor and Jake tried to secretly get back together a few months after the breakup.

Like most of Taylor Swift's songs, ‘All Too Well’ was based on a true story from her life, but the lyrics took things to a level that no other song of hers had ever reached before. Taylor wrote ‘All Too Well’ when she was at her most broken, but said that the song now brings her joy because of the way her fans have responded to it.

Autumn in New York - Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong

A very old, but wonderful song with jazz piano and gentle vocals by Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong. ‘Autumn in New York’ describes change and new beginnings in many ways. It also refers to the bittersweet feeling that affects people when autumn approaches. Like many other songs, ‘Autumn in New York’ is open to different interpretations. But one remarkable fact is that this song contains many contradictory ideas: talk of love and new experiences is immediately followed by pain and broken dreams. The song is soft and tender, but at the same time exciting.

Zorjana Osin’ (Original Mix) - Vopli Vidopliassova

This autumnal song by the popular Ukrainian band Vopli Vidopliassova conveys the entire palette of autumn weather - from a warm breeze with golden leaves underfoot to a squall of rain with thunder and storm: from lyrics to rock.

***

These different songs explore the autumn season in their own way. Each of them reflects how different people feel about the autumn. The change of seasons evokes seemingly universal feelings. Some artists describe these feelings in a positive way. Others perceive autumn in their songs as the sad end of an era.

However, autumn is something that combines cheerful warm summer days with cold winter months for everyone. It is that in-between moment that can give us a good or bad charge. But ultimately, we can look at autumn as a new beginning.
