Serhiy Rebrov appointed head coach of the Ukrainian national football team
The Ukrainian Football Association has announced the appointment of 48-year-old Serhiy Rebrov as the head coach of the Ukrainian national football team. The expert has signed a 3-year contract with the association, as reported on the official organization's website. He has invited Vicente Gómez, Alberto Bosch, Rustam Khudzhamov, and Hlib Platov to his coaching staff.
"We are still in negotiations. We have not yet signed contracts with all the assistants. But I believe that the assistants will be Alberto Bosch and Vicente Gómez, who were with me at Al-Ain. Ukrainian assistants will follow, with whom I will reach an agreement. Yes, Hlib Platov is already working with us. I have known him for a long time; he worked with me at Kyiv's Dynamo, and now he works in Dnipro. Rustam Khudzhamov will be the goalkeeper coach," said the new coach of the blue and yellows.
Rebrov will make his debut as the national team coach on June 12th in a friendly match against the German national team. On June 16th and 19th, the blue and yellows will play against North Macedonia and Malta in the Euro 2024 qualifiers. Prior to Rebrov, the Ukrainian national team played one match against England under Ruslan Rotan's leadership, which resulted in a 2-0 defeat at Wembley Stadium in London.
For the former football star, this is his fifth experience as an independent coach and the first one with a national team. Rebrov led Dynamo Kyiv to two championships, won the Hungarian championship three times with Ferencváros, and also won the top division in the United Arab Emirates with Al Ain. He also managed Al-Ahli in Saudi Arabia, with whom he won a silver medal.
Serhiy Rebrov is a former striker for the Ukrainian national team, Dynamo Kyiv, Tottenham Hotspur, and several other clubs. He was the first player to score 100+ goals in the Ukrainian Premier League. As a player, Serhiy Rebrov also played 75 matches for the Ukrainian national team, scoring 15 goals. He reached the quarter-finals of the 2006 FIFA World Cup. He began his coaching career in 2009.
Apart from football, Rebrov's hobby is radio sports. He is married for the second time and has three sons. Among his non-football awards, the coach has received the state orders "For Merit" and "For Courage."
