Slovak PM Fico Heads to Erdogan in Turkey for Strategic Partnership Talks After Meeting Putin in Russia

A delegation of Slovakia led by pro-Russian Prime Minister Robert Fico, who visited Russia before the new year and met with dictator Putin on gas transit through Ukraine, will visit Ankara today to meet with President Erdogan.

This was reported on social media by the Public Relations Directorate of the Turkish presidential administration.

‘President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan will receive Prime Minister Robert Fico of the Slovak Republic and his delegation, who will pay an official visit to the country on Monday, 20 January, at the presidential complex,’ the statement said.

The meeting will focus on steps to deepen cooperation between Turkey and Slovakia, and will include an exchange of views on current regional and global issues, including relations between Turkey and the European Union.

During the visit, the two sides are expected to sign agreements in various fields, including a Joint Declaration that will raise relations between Turkey and Slovakia to the level of ‘strategic partnership’.

Earlier, Fico threatened Ukraine to stop supporting refugees in Slovakia and cut off electricity supplies to Ukraine due to the completion of the contract for the transit of Russian gas to Europe through Ukraine. The transit also took place through Slovakia.
