Sudden Death of Moschino's Creative Director, Davide Renne
Davide Renne, an Italian designer and former head of the women's clothing department at Gucci, passed away on Friday in Milan, Italy, at the age of 46. This occurred just nine days after Renne assumed the role of Creative Director at Moschino.
The news of his death was announced by Aeffe, the parent company of Moschino. According to a statement from New York Times, citing sources familiar with the situation, Davide Renne likely died from a heart attack. This information is not confirmed by the majority of news agencies.
"There are no words to describe the pain we are experiencing at this dramatic time," said Massimo Ferretti, Chairman of Aeffe. "With Davide, we were working on an ambitious project, in an atmosphere of enthusiasm and optimism about the future. Despite being with us for a very short time, Davide managed to make himself immediately loved and respected. Today, it is our responsibility to continue what only his imagination and creativity foresaw. We express deep condolences to his family and friends."
Another unclear detail about Renne: the L'Officiel website refers to him as a designer of Turkish origin, but there is no mention of this in any other sufficiently known source. There is only mention of his residence in Rome and Italian citizenship.
BBC writes that Renne was born in Follonica, Tuscany, Italy, in July 1977. He studied both at the University of Florence and at the Polimoda fashion school, starting his career working with Italian designer and mentor Alessandro Dell'Acqua before joining Gucci in 2004. He spent almost 19 years working for this prominent fashion house, contributing significantly to his work under the leadership of Alessandro Michele and Frida Giannini. At least the last 10 years, he shaped the face of Gucci. "My dear friend, inseparable brother, so much love," wrote Mr. Michele on Instagram on Friday. "What a wonderful and unforgettable journey we had together."
Renne's appointment as the Creative Director of Moschino was announced in October, and he was supposed to present his first collection for the brand at Milan Fashion Week in February. There is no news yet about who will succeed him. Obviously, Moschino will have to rely on the works of the previous Creative Director at the collection for Milan Fashion Week.
