Sweden to Provide €50 Million for Ukrainian Military Training and Aid via NATO

Sweden is allocating €50 million to NATO's NSATU (NATO Security Assistance and Training for Ukraine) and NATO CAP (Comprehensive Assistance Package) projects for Ukraine, which are responsible for training Ukrainian military personnel and supporting Ukraine, Swedish Defence Minister Pål Jonson announced before the start of the NATO North Atlantic Council meeting at the level of defence ministers in Brussels.
The Gaze reports on this with reference to European Pravda.
Sweden will allocate €50 million to NATO projects dedicated to training Ukrainian military personnel and supporting Ukraine.
‘Today, we are announcing from Sweden that we are also allocating €50 million to the NSATU Fund and NATO CAP,’ said Jonson.
He added that Sweden ‘is now very focused on supporting Ukraine on the front lines so that Ukraine can negotiate from a position of strength.’
‘We would like NATO to reach 5% (of GDP spent on defence – ed.) by 2030, of which 3.5% will be devoted to traditional defence spending and 1.5% to defence-related spending,’ Jonson said.
‘We would also like to welcome the commitments of strategic partners, in particular Ukraine, on issues related to defence investments, because supporting Ukraine is truly an investment in our own security. In my opinion, it would be natural to include these things in the 1.5% of defence-related investments,’ the Swedish minister clarified.
As The Gaze reported earlier, NATO leaders are preparing to decide to increase defence spending to 5% of GDP, part of which will be allocated to support Ukraine.
On 5 June, US Defence Secretary Pete Hagert said that NATO members would support US President Donald Trump's demand for a significant increase in defence spending ahead of the summit in The Hague.
It is not publicly known that Spain is the last major NATO country that has not yet joined the Alliance's plan to announce its intention to spend 5% of GDP on defence.
