Germany to Send Two Patriot Air Defense Systems to Ukraine

Germany has announced plans to deliver two additional Patriot air defense systems to Ukraine, following a strategic agreement with the United States that will see Berlin compensated with expedited deliveries of the latest U.S.-made systems.

German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius confirmed the arrangement on Friday, stating that the Bundeswehr will supply Ukraine with additional Patriot launchers in the coming days, with further system components expected to follow within two to three months.

“Thanks to the United States' commitment, Germany is in a position to support Ukraine immediately while securing priority access to next-generation Patriot systems,” Pistorius stated.

The deal comes amid intensifying Russian airstrikes across Ukraine, which have heightened the urgency for advanced air defense capabilities. 

Patriot systems, widely regarded as among the most effective for intercepting ballistic missiles, have played a crucial role in bolstering Ukraine's defenses.

This latest transfer will bring Germany’s total contribution of Patriot systems to Ukraine to five. Berlin emphasized that the move will not affect its obligations within NATO’s collective defense framework.

Under the terms of the agreement, Germany will finance the procurement of replacement Patriot systems from the U.S., which will now be delivered on an accelerated timeline.

As The Gaze reported earlier, Germany has already supplied Ukraine with more than 60 Gepard self-propelled anti-aircraft guns and is preparing to deliver an additional IRIS-T air-defense system.
