Sweden to Provide Ukraine with Crucial Radars to Detect Russian Artillery Shells

Sweden will purchase and transfer 18 additional Archer self-propelled artillery systems and 5 Arthur counter-battery radars to Ukraine, Swedish Defence Minister Pål Jonson has announced on social media platform X.
According to him, the weapons and equipment will be provided as part of a new military aid package worth about $300 million.
Jonson said that Sweden had previously handed over 8 Archer systems to Ukraine. ‘They have been highly appreciated in Ukraine and have proven themselves at the frontline, inflicting damage on the Russian occupiers. Thanks to the combination of speed, accuracy and mobility, Archer is a formidable weapon in Ukraine,’ he said.
The minister also said that five Arthur systems will help to detect artillery shells and locate enemy fire. This will allow for counter-battery fire on enemy positions. Ukraine has previously received these systems from Sweden and the UK.
‘According to open sources, Russia has lost more than 437 towed guns, 869 self-propelled systems and 451 multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS). We hope that this Swedish artillery package will further increase these figures,’ said Jonson.
According to him, Sweden will also join the ‘artillery coalition’ to coordinate and provide the Ukrainian Defence Forces with modern artillery systems, ammunition and training.
‘The long-term goal is to strengthen Ukraine's artillery capabilities and increase interoperability with NATO,’ the Swedish minister concluded.
As The Gaze previously reported, in 2024, the Swedish government announced the allocation of the largest military assistance package to Ukraine worth €1.16 billion which includes, among other things, ASC 890 airborne early warning and control aircraft.
