Swedish Foreign Minister Announces ‘Difficult’ Decision to Resign
Swedish Foreign Minister Tobias Billstrom has announced that he is resigning and leaving politics entirely. The official says that at the age of 50 he will find something to do next.
He announced this on the X network.
‘It is with pride and sadness that I informed the Prime Minister today <...> that I am resigning as Foreign Minister,’ Billstrom wrote.
According to him, he had been considering this decision for some time. ‘I am leaving politics completely. This means that I am also giving up my seat in parliament. What I will do in the future is still unknown. However, I am only 50 years old, and I look forward to working hard in a different context,’ the minister said.
He also listed the achievements of the current Swedish government, including the country's NATO membership. ‘The current security situation is the most serious since the Second World War, and our government has made a historic change in Sweden's security policy. We are now among the key countries that support Ukraine and have implemented a long-term strategy to counter Russia's expanding influence,’ the diplomat said.
Billstrom took over as Sweden's Foreign Minister in October 2022, having previously served as Minister of Immigration.
