In the parliament of Lithuania, a vote was held regarding early parliamentary elections, and the Seimas did not support this idea. 66 voted in favor, 61 against, and 8 abstained.

It was reported by Delfi.

The leader of the conservatives, Gabrielius Landsbergis, proposed including the resolution on early parliamentary elections in the agenda of the parliamentary plenary session.

The chairman of the SO-HDL assured that the conservatives in the Seimas would not be obligated to support the proposal for early parliamentary elections. "There is no obligation. My position remains unchanged, that it is the right of each member of the Seimas to decide how they see this situation," said Landsbergis. He also noted that various opinions were expressed during the presidium meeting regarding the party leadership's initiative for early elections. According to him, similar positions expressed by politicians belonging to the conservatives are also evident in the public sphere.

"You have heard similar opinions in the public sphere. There was no intention to convince anyone; people evaluate the situation differently, especially those who are distant from today's political life. Their assessment is different. Those who are in the driver's seat see the situation differently. We had the opportunity to present these arguments without the goal of reaching a consensus. From the very beginning, the decision was made to agree not to agree until the end," explained Gabrielius Landsbergis, not ruling out the possibility that some members of the conservative faction do not support the idea of early elections.

The leader of the conservatives also stated that he does not consider the vote on early elections as a vote on his leadership in the party. Therefore, the politician made it clear that he will not step down from the position of chairman of the SO-HDL in any case.

By the way, the leader of the Social Democratic Labor Party (SO-HDL), Vilija Blinkeviciute, stated that their deputies would have supported the proposal for early elections if it had been put to a vote in parliament.

The Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania is the highest legislative body, a unicameral parliament. The last Seimas was convened on October 25, 2020. The Lithuanian Seimas consists of 141 deputies who are elected by direct secret ballot based on universal suffrage through a mixed system for a term of four years.
