The Royal Orchestra of Sweden Performed a Piece by Ukrainian Composer at the Nobel Prize Ceremony
During the prestigious Nobel Prize awards ceremony, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra of Sweden presented the composition "Evening Serenade" from the "Silent Music" cycle by the internationally renowned Ukrainian composer Valentyn Sylvestrov.
This year's Nobel Prize ceremony was broadcast on the official pages of the event on social media.
Sylvestrov is recognized as a contemporary musical classic. Born in September 1937 in Kyiv, Ukraine, he became a symbol of creative resistance to the totalitarian Soviet system in the 60s, creating avant-garde and unconventional music in the eyes of communist dogma.
Valentyn Sylvestrov's composition 'Prayer for Ukraine' was the central focus of a charity concert at the Metropolitan Opera in March 2022. The Fourth Symphony was performed by the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the Eighth in the Lithuanian National Opera, and now Sylvestrov's 'Silent Music' was performed during the Nobel Prize ceremony.
It's worth noting that this year's Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to Iranian women's rights activist Narges Mohammadi, currently in prison and declaring a second hunger strike.
Recalling, the Nobel Prize in Literature was awarded to Norwegian playwright Jon Fosse for his innovative plays and prose expressing the inexpressible.
