Trump Considering New Russia Sanctions This Week, Bessent Says

U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said President Donald Trump is preparing to consider new punitive measures against Russia this week.
The Gaze reports this, referring to Fox News.
Bessent stressed that “all options remain on the table,” underscoring Washington’s frustration with what he described as President Vladimir Putin’s “shameful escalation” of attacks.
“After the historic meeting in Anchorage and the subsequent phone call, when European leaders and President Zelenskyy were at the White House, Putin did the opposite of what he promised,” Bessent said. “Instead of moving toward de-escalation, he disgracefully intensified the bombings.”
The secretary emphasized that Trump and his administration are carefully reviewing possible responses, with sanctions expected to be a central part of the discussions this week.
Bessent also addressed strained relations with India after the White House imposed new tariffs in response to New Delhi’s continued purchases of Russian oil.
He criticized India’s role in reselling Russian crude, saying the practice indirectly bankrolls Moscow’s war effort. “That was an additional factor in the decision to raise tariffs on Indian goods,” he noted.
As The Gaze reported earlier, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Ukraine expects strong support from the U.S., Europe and the G20 against Russia, as the two-week period set by U.S. President Donald Trump for Moscow to prepare for negotiations comes to an end.
