Turkey Successfully Tests Its Own 'Steel Dome' - SIPER Air Defence System
Turkey has completed testing of the ‘Steel Dome’ - the SİPER air defence system, which is designed to plan and coordinate air defence.
This was announced by Haluk Görgün, Head of the Turkish Defence Industry Directorate.
‘This project is one of the largest investments in the security of our country. The SIPER system provides effective long-range and high altitude defence, strengthening our goal of fully protecting our country's borders with an iron shield,’ he said.
The SİPER system will be capable of engaging fighter jets, cruise missiles and air-to-ground munitions, with research to be conducted in later stages to enable it to engage ballistic missiles.
The first systems are expected to be in service by the end of 2024.
Earlier, in August, Turkey announced its intention to create its own anti-missile system called Steel Dome to combine air defence systems, various sensors and weapons into a single system.
