Ukraine, Russia Agree Large-Scale Prisoner Exchange, Trump Claims
US President Donald Trump has said that a large-scale prisoner exchange has been agreed between Russia and Ukraine.
The Gaze reports on this with reference to his post in Truth Social, Reuters, and European Pravda.
Trump is the first Western official to comment on the exchange, which was agreed upon at the Stabul talks.
"[The agreement on] a large-scale prisoner exchange between Russia and Ukraine has just been finalised. It will come into force in the near future. We congratulate both sides on reaching this agreement. Could this be the beginning of something great?" the US president said in a statement.
It should be noted that at the time of publication, neither Kyiv nor Moscow confirmed that an agreement had been reached or that an exchange had taken place.
An interlocutor of European Pravda in one of the Ukrainian special services said that the exchange has not yet been completed. According to him, the process is ongoing.
On 22 May, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a meeting to prepare the exchange after a 1000-for-1000 agreement was reached in Turkey during talks between Russia and Ukraine.
As The Gaze reported earlier, during the talks in Istanbul, Ukraine and Russia discussed the ceasefire and humanitarian issues, as well as a possible meeting at the level of leaders. In particular, they agreed to exchange prisoners in the format of "1000 for 1000", said the head of the Ukrainian delegation at the talks in Istanbul, Ukrainian Defence Minister Rustem Umerov.
