Ukraine Secures Key Wins at UNESCO World Heritage Session in Paris

Ukraine achieved significant results during the 47th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee held in Paris from July 6–17, The Gaze reports, citing the Ministry of Culture and Strategic Communications.
The session, attended by 21 member states, reviewed new nominations and assessed the state of conservation of existing World Heritage sites.
The Ukrainian delegation, including Deputy Minister of Culture and Strategic Communications Serhiy Belyaev and expert Serhiy Kulykov, actively engaged in diplomatic and expert-level discussions.
As a result, the Committee agreed to keep three Ukrainian sites — in Kyiv, Lviv, and Odesa — on the List of World Heritage in Danger, recognizing the ongoing risks posed by the war.
It also issued recommendations for improved management, emergency response, and monitoring of these sites.
Ukraine successfully proposed that in future decisions, expert assessments should be carried out when sites are added to the danger list due to external factors such as war or natural disasters.
The Ukrainian delegation also held over ten bilateral meetings with countries including Vietnam, the UAE, Australia, Canada, Montenegro, Lithuania, North Macedonia, and Albania.
Special attention was given to the development of a cross-border nomination of the Trypillia culture. Deputy Minister Belyaev held talks with Romanian officials and a senior advisor to the UNESCO Director-General.
Notably, Ukraine was elected Vice-President of the 48th session of the Committee, which will take place in 2026 in Busan, South Korea.
