In a decisive operation aimed at disrupting Russia’s precision weapons manufacturing, Ukraine’s Defense Forces conducted a targeted drone strike on a key military-industrial facility in the city of Cheboksary, Chuvash Republic, deep within the Russian Federation.

The Gaze reports on this with reference to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The site targeted, belonging to “VNIIR-Progress” and its affiliate “ABS Elektro,” was involved in manufacturing critical components for Shahed-type drones and other advanced Russian weaponry.

The targeted facility specialized in producing “Kometa” adaptive antenna modules – navigation components that play an integral role in guiding Shahed drones, as well as in Russian guided aerial bombs and long-range missiles such as the Iskander, Kalibr, Kh-101, and Kh-69. These modules support GLONASS/GPS navigation and are engineered to resist signal jamming.

“The Progress plant in Cheboksary is now ceasing operations indefinitely,” said Andriy Kovalenko, head of Ukraine’s Center for Countering Disinformation. “Russia may claim it intercepted the drones, but the impact on their defense-industrial complex is undeniable.”

The strike’s ramifications are likely to be far-reaching. Without these components, Russia’s ability to deploy high-precision munitions may be significantly hindered.

The Kometa systems were reportedly integrated not only into drones such as Orlan-10 and Lancet, but also into operational-tactical platforms and precision-strike systems critical to Russia’s war effort.

In response to the attack, Russia imposed temporary flight restrictions at several major airports, including those in Kazan, Nizhny Novgorod, Saratov, and Tambov, under emergency protocols known as “Kover” (Carpet Plan).

Ukrainian military officials have emphasized that such operations are part of a broader strategic objective – to systematically degrade Russia’s capacity to produce and deploy offensive weapons systems by targeting critical infrastructure far beyond the frontlines.

As The Gaze reported earlier, on June 6, Ukraine’s Armed Forces executed a coordinated drone offensive targeting critical Russian military infrastructure at Engels and Dyagilevo airbases, located in the Saratov and Ryazan regions respectively.
