Ukraine to Officially Request Weapons from South Korea Due to North Korean Troops’ Involvement in Russia’s War
Ukraine will officially ask South Korea for weapons due to the participation of DPRK troops in Russia's war against Ukraine. This was stated by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy in an interview with South Korean TV channel KBS.
According to Zelenskyy, so far Kyiv and Seoul have been ‘quite cautious’ about each other.
‘It is one thing to help Ukraine financially or humanitarian, medically, and another to help with weapons. That is why now, after North Korea has received the official status of people who came to fight against Ukrainian citizens, our request will be detailed. It will be together with my representative, who will come to South Korea in the near future. And we will talk about weapons,’ Zelenskyy said.
He added that ‘we would very much like to be helped’, in particular, artillery, air defence ‘and some other important things’.
This week, South Korea sent a delegation to Ukraine to cooperate and exchange information on the deployment of DPRK troops in Russia and promised to provide weapons to Ukraine if Russia engages the North Korean military in military operations.
Earlier, the Pentagon confirmed that there are several thousand North Korean troops in the Kursk region of Russia, who could be involved in hostilities against Ukraine in the coming days.
