Ukraine to Receive French Mirage 2000 Fighter Jets Soon
Ukraine will receive Mirage 2000-5F combat aircraft from France by the end of the first quarter of 2025, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot said in an interview with Sud Radio.
‘Soon, French Mirages will be flying in the Ukrainian sky. This will happen by the end of the first quarter of this year,’ Barrot said.
Back in October 2024, French Defence Minister Sébastien Le Coronneu confirmed that Mirage 2000 fighters would be delivered to Ukraine in the first quarter of 2025. The planes will be equipped with the latest surface-to-air systems and electronic warfare protection.
In September 2024, Ukraine's Defence Minister Rustem Umerov said that Ukraine was expecting to receive French-made Mirage 2000s, but did not give any specific dates. He also stressed that Russia is using about 300 planes and helicopters in the war against Ukraine.
Jean-Noël Barrot added that the European Union was able to accumulate funds from frozen Russian assets to support Ukraine. ‘Ukraine will receive a billion a month,’ he said.
The minister also stressed that sanctions against Russia would continue. According to him, the EU is working on the 16th package of sanctions, and has already imposed sanctions against three Russian citizens for cyberattacks on Estonia.
Barrot stressed the importance of Europe's preparations for a possible peacekeeping mission in Ukraine to ensure security. ‘This is a necessity to ensure peace in Ukraine and Europe,’ he said. The minister also expressed hope that the United States would participate in such a mission, if it is organised.
