Ukraine Wants Trump to Join Zelenskyy–Putin Peace Talks, Foreign Minister Says

Ukraine would like former U.S. President Donald Trump to join a potential peace summit between President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Russian President Vladimir Putin, Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said on Friday, The Gaze reports, citing Ukrinform.
Speaking to journalists, Sybiha emphasized that any continuation of talks, following the recent Istanbul meeting, must proceed without preconditions. “If we put aside all these pseudo-historical lectures from the Russian delegation, clear agreements were reached,” he said.
According to Sybiha, those agreements included the initiation of a prisoner exchange, which has now begun, and an upcoming stage focused on ceasefire parameters.
“The first is the exchange of prisoners of war, and today, the implementation of this point, as reported by the President of Ukraine, has begun. The second point—we are waiting for the Russian side’s vision, their concept, their proposals regarding the parameters of a future unconditional ceasefire,” Sybiha explained.
He also confirmed that Ukraine is preparing its own framework for a ceasefire to be shared with Russia.
“The third position we are working on is a meeting between President Zelenskyy and President Putin. We allow for this meeting to be in an expanded format. We would very much like President Trump to join it,” Sybiha stated. “And we consistently insist that Europe must be at the table of any future negotiations.”
When asked whether the Vatican is still being considered as the location for a potential summit, Sybiha responded affirmatively: “Yes, we are interested, and we are grateful personally to Pope Leo XIV for this proposal. We would welcome such a meeting specifically in the Vatican.”
