Ukrainian Art Installation to Be Showcased at Expo 2025 in Osaka

An immersive video installation titled “Home Beyond the Dawn. Osaka”, featuring the works of 30 Ukrainian contemporary artists, will be presented from August 1 to 12 in the Romanian Pavilion at Expo 2025 in Osaka, Japan.
The Gaze reports this, referring to Suspilne.
The exhibition, curated by Nataliia Matsenko, Yurii Yefanov, and Clemens Poole, explores the transformation of the concept of “home” amidst the realities of war. The 30-minute multi-channel video experience takes viewers on a journey through Ukraine’s cultural landscape – from the west to the war-torn east.
It begins in Lviv with photographs by Olena Subach, moves south to the partially liberated Kherson region, including the Museum of Contemporary Art in Kherson and the iconic house of folk artist Polina Raiko, and concludes in temporarily occupied Luhansk, where Anastasiia Leliuk’s exhibition is accompanied by the haunting piano composition east piano by John Object, created near Bakhmut during his military service.
The installation immerses visitors in digital reconstructions of Ukraine’s landscapes, scarred by war, disasters, and destruction, while highlighting the resilience of art as a witness to history.
The curators emphasize that despite violence, propaganda, and occupation, the essence of “home” as a space of solidarity, support, and hope remains unbroken. The program will also include panel discussions and interactive workshops.
The “Home Beyond the Stars” project first premiered at the Guadalajara International Book Fair (Mexico) as part of the Artistic Expressions in Contemporary Europe program, where it attracted more than 37,000 visitors.
