Russia Launches Massive Overnight Assault on Kyiv: Two Killed, Several Injured

Russia carried out a large-scale overnight attack on the Ukrainian capital, striking multiple residential areas and causing widespread destruction.
The Gaze reports this, referring to statements made by Ukrainian officials.
According to Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko, two people were killed and five others injured, including a two-year-old child.
“As a result of the enemy’s attack, two people were killed and five injured,” Klitschko wrote on social media, adding that all victims have been hospitalized.
The State Emergency Service of Ukraine (SES) confirmed that the assault, described as a “combined strike” involving drones and missiles – hit four districts of the city: Dniprovskyi, Darnytskyi, Desnianskyi, and Pecherskyi.
In the Dniprovskyi district, a 16-story apartment building was hit, igniting a fire on the sixth floor. Ten residents, including children, were rescued, but two people were found dead.
In the Darnytskyi district, a UAV strike caused a massive blaze spanning floors 11 to 16 of a residential tower. Fifteen people were rescued, among them two children. Firefighters also contained a separate blaze at a nearby two-story non-residential building.
In the Desnianskyi district, the facade of another high-rise was damaged, and fires broke out in a car and a gas pipeline. Twenty people were rescued from the scene.
Meanwhile, in the Pecherskyi district, an explosion damaged the upper floors of a 25-story apartment block. The fire there was extinguished before emergency crews arrived.
The SES reported that rescue and recovery operations were still underway as of early morning, with casualty figures expected to be updated throughout the day.
The assault on Kyiv came amid a new wave of Russian strikes targeting Ukraine’s energy and civilian infrastructure. Overnight attacks were recorded across multiple regions, marking one of the most intense barrages in recent weeks.
As a result of a massive missile and drone strike targeting Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, emergency power outages have been introduced across most regions of the country, the national grid operator Ukrenergo reported on Facebook.
The company added that repair and restoration work is ongoing wherever the security situation allows, noting that power engineers are working under challenging conditions amid continued air raid alerts and the threat of further attacks.
