Ukrainian Film 'Taste of Freedom' to Screen at European Film Festival
The VIII Malaysia International Film Festival will feature a screening of the romantic comedy ‘The Taste of Freedom’ by Ukrainain director Oleksandr Berezan.

This year, the European Film Festival in Malaysia (EUFF) celebrates its 25th anniversary. On this occasion, it will be held for the first time as a parallel section of the 8th Malaysia International Film Festival (MIFFest).
‘The special edition of the festival will present the most ambitious programme in its history - viewers can expect stories that transcend borders and unite through the power of cinema,’ the agency said.
The festival will run from 20 to 27 July 2025.
The Taste of Freedom is the story of a young girl named Varya who loses her job because her haute cuisine is not needed in a roadside café. She flees to Lviv to fulfil her dream of becoming a chef in a European cuisine restaurant. But a unique find — a cookbook by the forgotten legend of Ukrainian cuisine Olha Franko — changes her life forever...
The film was created with the support of the Ukrainian State Film Agency.
The screening will take place on 22 July at 15:00 in Kuala Lumpur.
The Taste of Freedom was released in cinemas on 7 March 2024. In three weekends, it grossed over ₴2.5 million.
