Ukrainian FM Meets Finnish President, Backs Stronger Cooperation

Ukraine’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrii Sybiha held two high-level meetings in Finland on Thursday, underscoring Kyiv’s push to deepen defense cooperation, increase pressure on Russia, and drive reforms within the OSCE.
The Gaze reports this, referring to Sybiha’s post on social media platform X.
During talks with Finnish President Alexander Stubb, Sybiha discussed strengthening Ukraine-Finland defense ties, enhancing sanctions against Moscow, and reinforcing transatlantic unity.
“I briefed President Stubb about Russia’s increased terror against Ukraine, including today’s strikes, which led to civilian casualties, and the battlefield situation,” Sybiha added.
He also informed the Finnish leader about recent progress in Ukraine’s anti-corruption reforms, highlighting the successful passage of legislation safeguarding the independence of key institutions.
Sybiha expressed gratitude for Finland’s steadfast support. “With allies like Finland and the friendly Finnish people we have confidence that our shared values of freedom, peace, and justice will prevail,” he stated.
In parallel, Sybiha met with Finnish Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen on the sidelines of the high-level Helsinki+50 Conference, marking the 50th anniversary of the Helsinki Final Act.
The two ministers discussed Finland’s OSCE chairmanship priorities and Ukraine’s vision for revitalizing the organization.
“Finland’s OSCE priority “Resilient Together” is very timely,” Sybiha said. “Both Ukrainians and Finns know the meaning of resilience. We both resisted a brutal and unprovoked aggression of a much bigger aggressor in Moscow.”
He outlined Ukraine’s proposal for comprehensive OSCE reform, pledging to present five concrete steps to accelerate the Organisation's effectiveness.
Sybiha also updated Valtonen on the latest developments in negotiations with Russia, including a recent meeting in Istanbul, and emphasized the urgency of securing a ceasefire and convening a summit of world leaders.
