Ukrainian Intelligence Claims Cyberattack on Major Russian Internet Provider in Siberia

Ukrainian cyber operatives have carried out a cyberattack that disabled the operations of Orion Telekom, one of the largest internet providers in Siberia, The Gaze reports, citing Suspilne News.
According to the sources, the networks of Orion Telekom were actively used by Russian security agencies as part of their ongoing war against Ukraine. As a result of the operation, internet access was disrupted in several regions, including a closed city involved in uranium extraction where the company served as the sole internet provider.
Orion Telekom acknowledged experiencing technical difficulties, citing a powerful DDoS attack as the cause. The company stated that efforts are underway to restore internet access, which it plans to reestablish by the end of the day.
According to the sources, the attack disabled 370 servers and around 500 network switches, and backup systems were destroyed, significantly complicating or potentially preventing a quick restoration of the provider’s infrastructure.
Meanwhile, Telegram channels from Krasnoyarsk, Irkutsk, Bratsk, and Abakan have been flooded with user complaints about outages in both internet and television service.
A message allegedly from Ukrainian hackers has been circulating in those channels, addressed to the company and signed by the hacker group “BO Team”, which is believed to be behind the operation.
