UN Security Council to Discuss North Korea's Role in Russia's War Against Ukraine; Seoul Summons Russian Ambassador
South Korea's Foreign Ministry summoned the Russian ambassador to Seoul on Monday to express regret over North Korea's sending of soldiers to fight in Russia's war against Ukraine, Yonhap reports.
According to officials, First Deputy Foreign Minister Kim Hong-kyun expressed the government's position during a meeting with Russian Ambassador Georgy Zinoviev. The ambassador himself told Yonhap as he was leaving the Foreign Ministry building that he had met with Kim Hong-kyun, but refused to answer further questions.
The day before, it became known that the UN Security Council will meet today to discuss the security situation in Ukraine, including military support for Russia from North Korea, Iran and China. According to Ukrinform's own correspondent in New York, the meeting will be held at the request of the United States and Slovenia, which consulted with the Ukrainian Permanent Mission.
As previously reported, South Korea's National Intelligence Service said that the North Korean regime has decided to send 12,000 troops to support Russia in its war against Ukraine. This includes four military brigades, including special forces.
A video published by CNN shows North Korean soldiers receiving their uniforms and equipment at the Sergeevka training ground in Russia's Far East.
