US House Approves Sanctions Against the International Criminal Court Over Arrest Warrant for Netanyahu
The US House of Representatives has passed a bill to impose sanctions on the International Criminal Court officials who issued an arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, CNN reports.
‘The prosecution of Netanyahu by the ICC has provoked a negative reaction from Republicans and Democrats in Congress. The Senate, led by the Republican majority, is expected to consider the bill in turn,’ the publication says.
It is noted that the United States maintains broad bipartisan support for military assistance to Israel. However, control over the allocation of US aid to Israel, which is waging a war against Hamas, has intensified with the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza, and this issue has caused disagreements, particularly within the Democratic Party.
At the end of last year, the ICC issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu and former Israeli Defence Minister Gallant, as well as a senior official of the Hamas terrorist organisation, accusing them of war crimes. Thus, the International Criminal Court equated Hamas terrorists, who attacked Israel on 7 October 2023, killing more than a thousand civilians and taking hundreds hostage, with Israeli statesmen who began to defend themselves against the terrorist attack. According to Israeli intelligence, about half of the 100 hostages left by Hamas terrorists are still alive.
