U.S. House Democrats Introduce Comprehensive Ukraine Support Act

On April 14, Democrats in the U.S. House of Representatives introduced a bill aimed at enhancing support for Ukraine in its war with Russia, The Gaze reports, citing Reuters.
The Ukraine Support Act, submitted by Representative Greg Meeks, the leading Democrat on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, provides multi-level assistance to Ukraine – from funding security needs to post-war reconstruction, and imposes stringent sanctions against Russia.
According to Reuters, the bill, which has not yet been released to the public, is structured into three parts. The first part reaffirms support for Ukraine and NATO, including initiatives to aid Ukraine's rebuilding efforts, such as establishing a special coordinator for reconstruction.
The second part focuses on providing security aid to Kyiv, including direct loans and military funding. The third part aims to enforce tough sanctions and export controls on Russia, targeting financial institutions, the oil and mining industries, and Russian officials.
These actions in Congress highlight increasing concerns among lawmakers regarding Ukraine’s future and are intended to shape any Ukraine-related legislative package Congress may approve.
The urgency of the bill was underscored on Sunday, when two Russian ballistic missiles struck the northern Ukrainian city of Sumy. The attack killed 35 people and injured 129, many of them civilians.
Key elements of the Ukraine Support Act are expected to be included in any final comprehensive package for Ukraine. The bill is also likely to be a significant point of reference in future policy discussions.
As The Gaze reported earlier, Trump has extended sanctions against Russia imposed by Biden due to Moscow's malicious activities.
